About me...

My federal and state court practice focuses on employee rights, personal injury, civil lawsuits and criminal defense. I also represent union and non-union employees in education, public safety, and other public & private professions. I am especially proud of my work in Brady v. Cumberland County, a 2015 Maine Supreme Court decision that significantly advanced the rights of whistleblowers in Maine. I have also negotiated many favorable settlements for clients in discrimination, whistleblower retaliation, and personal injury cases.

Before becoming an attorney, I worked for the Portland Police Department as a police officer, detective, drug agent, patrol sergeant, internal affairs investigator, and training supervisor. I was proud to be named the 2005 recipient of the Robert B. Ganley Public Service Award, the City of Portland’s highest employee honor.

In addition to my litigation practice, I use the skills I have developed as both an attorney and former police detective to conduct independent investigations in cities, towns & counties, colleges & universities, public & private schools, businesses, and non-profits in the areas of discrimination, retaliation, sexual harassment, education/Title IX, theft, drug & alcohol use, abuse of authority, civil, criminal, administrative & regulatory violations, and other types of misconduct.
